چکیده
A methodology that combines a 24-year long (January 1993 to December 2016) global dataset of eddy trajectories, derived from altimetry, with vertical temperature and salinity profiles the EN4.2.0 database, XBTs/MBTs, CTDs Argo floats, was used reconstruct mean structure North Brazil Current (NBC) rings, calculate some their properties. Dipole rings and vortex interactions of the Brazil Current
A reexamination of satellite-derived sea surface temperature imagery reveals many examples of Brazil Current rings, both warm and cold, in dipole configurations. The dynamical significance of the dipole model is established by considering the interaction of a cold (cyclonic) eddy with a warm (anticyclonic) ring. The ring is shown to exist as a dipole for about 60 days, or two rotation periods b...

[1] Eight years of TOPEX/Poseidon altimeter-derived sea height anomaly and climatological hydrographic data are used to investigate the temporal and spatial variability of the North Brazil Current (NBC) retroflection and the North Equatorial Countercurrent (NECC). The NBC retroflection exhibits a mean position of 6.6 N± 2.0 , with a strong annual signal and year-to-year variability. The annual ...

[1] An eddy-permitting 1=4 global ocean reanalysis based on the Operational Met Office FOAM data assimilation system has been run for 1989–2010 forced by ERA-Interim meteorology. Freshwater and heat transports are compared with published estimates globally and in each basin, with special focus on the Atlantic. The meridional transports agree with observations within errors at most locations, bu...
متن کاملBasinwide Integrated Volume Transports in an Eddy-Filled Ocean
The temporal evolution of the strength of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) in the subtropical North Atlantic is affected by both remotely forced, basin-scale meridionally coherent, climaterelevant transport anomalies, such as changes in high-latitude deep water formation rates, and locally forced transport anomalies, such as eddies or Rossby waves, possibly associated with...
